Why Using Your Voice Matters
The online business space is overflowing with a lot of vague, general content that chatbots are churning out faster than we can refresh our feeds. Which is why if you want to grab the attention of your ideal audience, you need to communicate from your unique voice, perspective, and experience. I was recently a guest on the podcast Demystifying Money with Misty Lynch, where we discussed why using your voice matters in today’s online marketplace.
Believe in the Bullseye Client
There’s a lot of chasing going on out there instead of attracting. It’s the difference between wearing a blindfold or not when you’re aiming at that bullseye. Your content should read like a personal conversation with that one ideal person you know is the client you are capable of serving best. It should not be like an announcement over the loudspeaker during school dismissal that no one really hears.
When you share a clear bullseye message, you invite that client to raise a hand and say, “You’re talking to me.”
Hang Out on Platforms Where You’re Comfortable
Most business owners love the idea of a 1:1 conversation with their ideal client, but have a strong dislike for “marketing”.
I’m telling you they are the same thing.
But if you’re forcing yourself to show up on a platform that gives you the ick, or make videos when you’d rather crawl under the furniture than be on camera, your loathing for marketing is no surprise.
Choose the platform where you can be yourself. It might be LinkedIn or TikTok, or both! If you love to write, a blog is an underrated, versatile tool that can double as a LinkedIn article, a section in your email newsletter, break down into social posts, or even script a video. One blog can provide a wealth of varied content for you to use.
Consistency Leads to Visibility
It’s not about repetitive keywords. The algorithms are looking for signs of humanity - new, expert content coming from unique voices and perspectives. That means you’re better off writing a thought leadership piece monthly instead of flooding all of your platforms with weak, weekly content. Quality consistency will lead to quality visibility. When you don’t show up on people’s platforms or in their inboxes, they are reading the content that does show up. Consistency keeps you front of mind.
Marketing, Not Memoir
People respond to stories way faster than a list of facts or statistics. But storytelling is strategic. It’s not about oversharing; it’s about finding relatable connectability with your potential clients. They want to know how your personal experience helps you help them, because it’s about them.
The Elusive Introduction
Have you ever listened to someone’s intro at a networking event, and wondered if you had enough coffee because you didn’t understand what they did once they were done with their pitch?
Hey, no judgment here. I’m pretty sure almost all business owners started out like that. Keep it simple - who you are, what you do, and how you do it that’s different from how your peers do it. Give a nice, clear explanation of your differentiator. Make people curious so they want to talk further. No one is looking for a novella the first time they meet you.
Websites That Make the Journey Clear
If you’re just starting your business, consider holding off on a website or starting with something simple. You may not like this, but if you haven’t worked with a few clients, you can’t be really clear on your offers, your bullseye, or your process.
Whatever you choose, you want crisp copy, white space, and clear calls to action. If you don’t direct visitors where you want them to go, they will leave.
Networking is a Commitment, Not a One-Night Stand
Networking is a continuous, relationship-building endeavor. Pressuring people with DM’s when you haven’t had a meeting, asking for referral fees when you haven’t worked together, or expecting them to provide potential contacts when you’re not familiar with their work yet is not going to build your list of connections. People you meet today may refer you years from now—if you stay connected. The point is trust - get to know people before you jump into anything.
Authenticity as the Spotlight
Business owners are always facing challenges, whether they are personal, professional, or global. The entrepreneurs who win are the ones who can be singled out by their voice and expertise. Authentic language bullseye clients, enhances value, and fuels word‑of‑mouth passing of business. When you step into the spotlight, people who need you can see you.
Whether it’s writing copy, clarifying messaging, doing case studies, or content consulting, my passion is helping female entrepreneurs to recognize and refine their brand voice, then use it to communicate, attract, and convert the clients they can serve best. Let’s connect to see what option can help you connect with your bullseye.
